Used with the kind permission of Dr. Saul Green, Ph.D.        Welcome into the         Quackbuster's Lair!

Here you'll find links to information
and web sites that are skeptical of most
so-Called "Alternative Medicine" (sCAM),
antagonistic to quackery, and favorable
to objective scientific evidence and
critical thinking, in contrast to
sole reliance on anecdotes & testimonials.

      with a Report

----NCAHF Position Statement on White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine
NCAHF believes that this Commission has failed in its mission. For a Commission of professionals with medical and other
advanced degrees, its activities apparently lacked scholarship and rigor. Its draft report lacks both value and validity. Instead of
seizing an opportunity to critically examine "CAM" theories and practices and making a rational and reasoned report to the
President, the Commission blindly advocates policies that are illogical and economically senseless. The value of any possible
therapies that may have emerged from careful review and testing has been lost in a tidal wave of enthusiasm for anything merely
     bearing the label of "CAM."

----Analysis of WHCCAMP's November 2001 Draft Report - Gorski & Barrett
The WHCCAMP report calls for an expanded bureaucracy that will waste taxpayer dollars and further the special interests of
ideologues and profiteers. Its recommended initiatives are unlikely to advance scientific knowledge and will certainly not protect
consumers. The White House should reject the report.

3. Quackbuster Resources

----Quackwatch - Guide to Health Fraud, Quackery, & Intelligent Decisions, Stephen Barrett, MD

"Dr. Barrett's QuackWatch is by far the best source of skeptical information I (Steve Dunn) have found on the net. Dr. Barrett
takes a very hard line, sometimes bordering on the dogmatic, but there is real information here, and a lot of it. I think anyone
considering alternative therapies for cancer must take the skeptical point of view into account. You need to know the evidence
against and the downside, as well as any credible hopeful information. It is rare for promoters or practitioners of alternative
therapies to give the downside. You'll find it here." - Steve Dunn,

Join the "Healthfraud Discussion List".
The HF list provides a forum for discussing health frauds, quackery, and unscientific health matters. It is a very active list, with
more than 300 members and typically about 50 postings per day. Listmaster: Stephen Barrett, MD, Quackwatch board chairman.

"The HealthFraud List concentrates on the probability that people are endangering themselves by having incorrect information,
although they are usually rational in their decision-making. The two strategies of attack are, firstly, to refute the false information,
thus reducing the demand for questionable medical practices, and secondly, to restrict access to the most dangerous through
legislation, knowing that some people will not process the information rationally. The entire raison d'etre of this list is the feeling
     that inaction is morally questionable.

"Deciding not to act is still a decision. If it results in death, it is a decision that led to death." -
Graeme Kennedy
